Benevolent Commission

BENEVOLENT COMMISSION - The Benevolence Commission will carry on general relief and benevolence work for the betterment of society (Article 15 Section 2). The Benevolence Commission shall also provide general relief (Sickness and Hardship-special emergency to be endorsed by E- Committee) and benevolence (In the case of the death of a Pastor or Pastor’s wife, the Benevolence Commission will provide funds to the widow of the deceased) to Pastors and Pastor’s Wives as the need dictates

 Position Overview

The Benevolence Commission will carry on general relief and benevolence work for the betterment of society (Article 15 Section 2). The Benevolence Commission shall provide general relief and benevolence to Pastors and Pastor’s Wives as the need dictates

 

Essential Job Functions

General Relief

  • Sickness
  • Hardship-special emergency to be endorsed by E- Committee

Benevolence

  • In the case of the death of a Pastor, the Benevolence Commission will provide funds to the widow of the deceased.
  • In the case of the death of a Pastor’s wife, the Benevolence commission will provide funds to the Pastor.

 In addition to general relief and benevolence, the benevolence Commission will adhere to the following directives:

  • The Benevolence Commission shall prepare an annual Report for the Convention.
  • The Benevolence Commission will elect a Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer.  The office of the Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer may be combined.
  • Any compensation of any officer and/or employee of the Benevolent Commission shall be fixed by the Commission
  • All expenses of the Benevolent Commission are subject to the approval of the Convention, and thus, must be presented to the Convention for proper authorization.
  • No Commission will incorporate.
  • All officers of the Benevolence Commission must be submitted to the Convention for approval (Article 15 Section 6-15).
  • A table will be provided at each meeting for the Benevolence Commission to secure funds for the work.
  • Church must be registered with Convention to be eligible for benevolent relief.
  • If the Benevolence Commission is unable to meet a benevolence request, the Chairman of the Benevolence commission should submit his request to the E-Committee to fulfill the request of the Pastor in need
  • There should be a defined amount set forth by the E-Committee for all benevolent disbursements.

 

  •  The President of the Commission shall preside at all Commission meetings.  The Recording Secretary of the Commission will keep a true record of the proceedings of the commission.
  • The Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer will handle the correspondence.
  • Each Commission shall have the Convention receive and disburse funds, hold all deeds and other property.
  • The officers of the Commission shall constitute the Board of Management of the Commission. 
  • Each Commission shall be subject to the Convention in all it does during the meeting of the Convention and during the interim Article 15 Section 6-15).
